Niagara
Fluidic Flow Cell for Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analysis
BlackHägen worked closely for some years with the "skunkworks" division of Malvern Instruments, a leading British Scientific Instruments manufacturer, supporting the conceptualization and development of new high-precision instruments, of which Niagara was one such project. BH developed the industrial and mechanical design for Niagara, including the design of an alignment fixture for the optical engine sub-assembly, and supported Malvern's internal team on overall systems design and design of the flow cell module.
BH developed the high-precision chassis on which the optical engine and fluidic-cell was aligned and mounted, including electronic and user interfaces and the external housing. BH procured and assembled a large number of fully-functional prototypes, including the packaging for shipment to the client and onto potential customers, essentially a limited first production run.
